[Chr24] Mistletoe Reetle Mishap
Warm Bodies
Ever since Jade had opened up his own bar, life had just been…good. Great, even. He had loved his time working at V’s casino, working as someone trying to obtain information from others. In the long term though, it was only right that he went back to his roots. Jade grew up a street rat, stealing, pickpocketing, and scamming in the streets. While it was more challenging to do as an adult than a young street urchin, he still had the touch. Especially with his drunk patrons. From time to time his thoughts would wander to his previous boss, V. That man was something else, as was his partner. Jade *loved* tormenting the information broker’s other half, Kenji. But then…well…..
Jade shook his head, refusing to dwell on past events that he could not change. He had his own other half, and that was all he truly needed. That, his bar, and his job he loved.
It was late in the evening, about closing time, and the last guest was just on their way out. The guest was trashed as hell, and it took him a few tries to find the exit, but he eventually made it. Once he was out, Jade secured the door and let out a sigh of relief. The week had been exhausting overall, but he was not done for the night. He’d pushed off decorating for the holidays for weeks, and now it was the middle of December.
He cleared his throat, making his way back to the storage area where all the lights and decorations were. It was one of his favorite times of the year, and for the first time he was able to decorate his own place his way. Growing up, he had only been able to watch others enjoy the holidays. So much had changed.
The most tedious process of it all was putting up the lights. They were a tangled, annoying mess, and every few minutes he swore in some manner. He even debated about ripping them down and not putting them up at all.
Once he finished putting the lights up, he began putting up wreaths and poinsettias. Truthfully he had no idea what the hell he was doing. A lot of it was out of his knowledge zone, but he didn’t care all that much.
In a few different locations he placed a mistletoe; one above the front door, one that led to the back, and one above the bar.
Jade finished up all his decorations, hands on his hips as he admired all his hard work. It was nearly three in the morning by the time he finished, and he was exhausted from it all. So exhausted that he never heard the other buck that had come up behind him.
He turned around, nearly colliding his head against the other’s. Startled, Jade jumped, taking a step back.
“Boo.”
Kaida had a mischievous grin, a hand on a hip as they watched Jade’s reaction with clear amusement.
“SHIT Kaida, you scared me.”
“Oh, did I?”
Jade frowned, shaking his head to transform it to a warm smile. “I just know you were waiting for a prime time to do that, weren’t you?”
A chuckle from his partner. “Who? Me? I’m innocent” they stated, arms outstretched, hands gripping onto Jade’s hips to pull him close. Kaida tilted their head, giving their partner a quick peck on the neck and forehead.
If he could, Jade would want to stay like that for hours in his partner’s arms, exchanging kisses and whispers of sweet nothings. But alas, he had more work to do. He returned a kiss to Kaida on their nose and began to step away, but Kaida’s grip tightened and they motioned up with their head. “Uh uh, you can’t get out of this that easily. You can go back to work after I get a proper kiss.”
Jade looked up, realizing what they were standing under. Of course he and Kaida were directly under the mistletoe he had just hung over the bar.
He laughed, admiring his partner as he replied, “Oh you really have to twist my arm to get me to do that. I’m so much more invested in decorating than giving you your daily dose of affection.” Without letting Kaida respond, Jade cocked his head to the side. He leaned in, eyes closing as he brushed his lips sensually against his partner’s. Kaida returned the kiss, heat building between the two of them.
This was the life Jade loved so much. He had a job he enjoyed, returned to the side gig work he did growing up, and had the best partner he could ask for. Though he and Kaida's initial meeting had been...intense to say the least, they were practically attached to the hip now. Any other day, had Jade not been trying to finish all the holiday decorations, he would have stayed there with his partner, kissing them for what would seem like an endless amount of time. It was their favorite passtime to do with one another, but alas there was work to be done.
Before it could build up too much to render Jade useless, he pulled away, lips slightly swollen and red. His gaze was soft, simply telling his partner a thousand words that he did not need to physically say out loud.
“Okay I won’t get any work done if we don’t keep it short, so get outta here would you? Let me focus.”
Kaida laughed, finally releasing Jade. Their own expression mimicked Jades in speaking a thousand words nonverbally. “Okay, okay, okay. You gave me what I wanted, so I will abstain from my needs. For now.”They turned away, moving to head out the door, waving as they did so.
As Kaida left, Jade watched them, his features and demeanor turning warm and full of love as his partner left, waving goodbye to his back in return before going back to decorating.
